Though classically trained, his studies in experimental literature and musical techniques steer his compositions and performances to include a wide variety of acoustic and electronic media such as: sensor technology, prepared guitars, piano, electro-acoustic percussion instruments, instruments of his own design, electronically modified traditional instruments, and movement.

His work has appeared in dance pieces by multiple companies in Chicago, San Francisco, and Oakland, and has been seen/heard at ACUD MACHT NEU (Berlin, DE), Le Café Central (Brussels, BE), Bains::Connective/Ten Weyngaert (Brussels, BE), Apiary Studios (London, UK), Center for New Music (San Francisco, CA), Gray Area Foundation for the Arts (San Francisco, CA), Berkeley Art Museum (Berkeley, CA), ACRE Gallery/ACRE-TV (Chicago, IL), ARTX (Long Beach, CA), Jack Straw New Media Gallery (Seattle, WA), Harvestworks (NYC, NY), Spectrum (NYC, NY), The Uncreativity Festival (Minneapolis, MN), and WBEZ Radio (Chicago, IL) among others. Recently, he has composed a number of works for chamber ensemble, electroacoustic ensemble and fixed media, focusing on spatialized sound and compositional psychoacoustics. Samuel has worked as a technical assistant to, and performed with Morton Subotnick, Alvin Curran, and John Driscoll. With collaborator Maryanna Lachman, he was an artist in residence at Bains::Connective (Brussels, Belgium), and with additional collaborators Abby Crain and Mara Poliak, recently premiered their evening-length performance piece Snake Talk at CounterPulse (San Francisco, CA), after performing iterations of it at FRESH Festival (San Francisco, CA), PerformanceWorksNW (Portland, OR), and Lake Studios (Berlin, DE).

BLACK LODGE is the DC based experimental electronic project from Alex Tebeleff (Paperhaus). Dip your toe into the pool of synth and human correspondence. Swim in the pulse and swallow the tonality. It may be a long exercise, but once you emerge, you can be rejuvenated and empowered. It’s just about how you choose to listen. https://soundcloud.com/blacklodgeal

ASHLEY SHEY is a body linguist. In experimental perfomances, she engages the potential for alchemical transformation in each moment through use of meditative movement.
