Matthew Daher (Detroit): “The Wisdom To Know the Difference” is an exploration of control on both a sonic and a spiritual level. Vocals and acoustic drums processed, blended with lush textures, triggering other sonic events at varying degrees of randomness. A song-structured web of intended and unintended sonic consequences emerges, inspired by artists such as Mount Eerie, Björk, J Dilla, and Fiona Apple. An inquiry into the limits of control, the ease/suffering of clarity/confusion around those limits. The ever-shifting nature of those limits. An analogy in sound for these human predicaments.
Heart of the Ghost (DC): Heart of the Ghost is an improvisational unit from the Baltimore/Washington area. Comprised of Jarrett Gilgore (Alto Saxophone), Luke Stewart (Double Bass) and Ian McColm (Drums), this group is the culmination of years of encircling orbits. Collectively encompassing a massive variety of interests and collaborators including James Brandon Lewis, Jaimie Branch, Tashi Dorji, and Dave Rempis. Themselves known players in the circles of improvised music, these three find common ground within their individual vocabularies: an aim to deconstruct and reshape canonized creative tropes into a new & stunning language.
Moses, Forrest, Ogg (DC): Neural re-alignment via audio-visual meditations. Methods include oscillating bowls, guitar textures, lasers and weird signal processes.
