Chúpame El Dedo / Abismo Ónix

Tuesday September 29 * 7PM * $20 * TICKETS

Secret Planet presents a night of disoriented tropical madness with Chúpame El Dedo (Colombia) and Abismo Ónix (Richmond, Virginia)

The name of this Colombian project means, in Spanish, “suck my finger”. One might wonder if that refers to hallucinogens, since this is decidedly the same state of fever dreaming one may enter when putting Chúpame El Dedo’s record on. The duo, made up of The Meridian Brothers’ Eblis Álvarez and Ondatrópica’s Pedro Ojeda, invites the listener on a trip that includes detours into traditional Colombian music, metal, grindcore - and total madness overall--a fusion of the most tropical clichés with the most metal-driven ones. That’s right: the most infernal guttural growl paired with the fiercest timbal strikes; the darkest headbanging with the wildest hip-shaking. Draped in silky satanic robes—one on the machines and the other on the drums—this duo brings to life a noisy, post-savory comedy that could only have been born in Bogotá. A caricature where the usual battle cry of the most furious, long-haired Rock al Parque rocker finally meets its equal in the shout of the devoted dancer. Distorted vocals, metal, and at times even gabber-house–like clichés are mixed with a tropical rhythm section composed of salsa, cumbia, currulao, and reggaeton.

Abismo Ónix is a bachata-metal band from Richmond, Virginia. Torn between his love for Bachata and metal, Andrés Bass founded Abismo Ónix in 2022. Inspired by Aventura fusing Bachata with other genres, Jinjer mixing soft and heavy, and Infant Annihilator's vocal versatility; Abismo Ónix was born. Live members of the band include Andrés Bass (Vocals), Moises Carrillo (Drums/Bongos), Alfonso Santos (Guitar), and Ramm Iyer (Bass)
