Fanoplane is an improvisational project focused on projecting the infinite gifts of the Muse. Fanoplane’s seed was planted in a duo performance by Bob Boilen (synthesizer) and Ted Zook (basscello). In addition to Boilen and Zook, this performance will feature Doug Kallmeyer (bass guitar and electronics), Jerry Busher (drums), Patrick Whitehead (horns), Maya Renfro (violin and voice), Brie Anderson (baritone guitar), Dan Gutstein (spoken word), Sarah Marie Hughes (sax, flute and voice), and Sarah Paz Hyde (violin, handpan, ngoni and voice). Fanoplane’s performances are unscored, unrehearsed and improvised extemporaneously on the spot. Plark presents so that they don't go off and become accelerationists, a performance of live video and sound, collapsing the time between decision- and image-making. Kaitlyn Paston performs images that interact with prerecorded video and an improvised live score with collaborators Christine Rayburn and Lindsey Arturo. The images are made with paper through casting shadow, shaping light, creating shape, and gestures. Input from the instruments connect to an interactive system on Max MSP and influence the superimposition of the live images onto the prerecorded video in a continually evolving edit. The performers respond to each other within the system to co-create a visual experience on the projection screen. The piece explores how we understand through our bodies, seeking a visual language to represent the experience of being a body through the process of ongoing collage.
