Climate Cafe

Saturday August 29 * 2pm * Free / donations * RSVP

Climate Cafes are happening worldwide—discussions over tea and pastries about climate change. Rhizome had a Climate Cafe in 2023 that is now being revived. This event will serve as a forum for discussing climate change, especially climate anxiety, as well as possible solutions and hope. Given the recent escalation of wildfires, flooding, and heatwaves worldwide, together with signs that we are going to surpass all nine planetary boundaries, we will discuss these and hopefully gain some clarity and catharsis.

Come prepared to share what’s on your mind and discuss things like: How is the rise in natural disasters going to create increasing numbers of climate refugees in the Global South, and what is our responsibility to them? How will a warming climate impact food production and make life more precarious? To what extent should we continue moving to net-zero, and through what kinds of energy sources? Can we envision a form of economic growth that is sustainable and within planetary boundaries, or is degrowth the ideal? How should animals and nature figure into how we think of what is at stake in a warming climate? How will climate change impact the futures of the youngest, and can we still have children in the Anthropocene?

We will explore these questions and more. Sign up here and let us know if you have any burning questions or ideas you want to discuss.
