People's Music Supply and Rhizome are proud to present the fourth installment of our cutting-edge series showcasing improvisational interplay between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. — two vanguard's of today's experimental music scene.
First up is an improvising trio from Washington, D.C.: Francisco Quintero (guitar), Stephen Arnold (bass) and Kelton Norris (drums). Francisco Quintero, Stephen Arnold, and Kelton Norris bring a contemporary and honest approach to the guitar trio setting that capitalizes upon each member’s unique voice and years of playing in a variety of styles and genres. In 2026 the longstanding trio will be releasing their debut album, documenting their unique songbook and approach.
Second will be a distinctly different improvising trio from Philadelphia, Pa.: FFMMAP!, who are Flandrew Fleisenberg, Mason McAvoy and Aaron Pond. Sonic scenery for an absurdist theatre at the end of time. Transmissions become beacons; lighthouses burn bright, guideposts for a journey without end. McAvoy’s liminal songbook rings with secret architecture, while Pond and Fleisenberg deconstruct and reassemble the landscape in real time. Ancient folk. Future jazz.
And in a unifying ad-hoc group: Nate Scheible (percussion/found sounds) and Victor Provost (steel pan) hold it down for D.C., while Connor Eeckles (electric guitar), and Christina Gesualdi (dance) represent Philadelphia. The group comes together to discover the nuanced edges of cultural meaning.
