Need a tender fall activity to connect with your community, support creatives & farm workers while raising funds to support food sovereignty in the face of systemic violence and genocide? Amazing, us too! Join for a Farmers Supporting Farmers Market on Friday, November 13 from 5-8pm! Local earthworkers will raise funds by selling various artistic offerings (and fall veggies) in collaboration with the Seeds of Solidarity Funding Drive.
Some offerings include but are not limited to: handmade dried flower wreaths, ceramics, natural dyed textiles, linocut prints, farm grown pepper flakes, custom seed packets, a seed-saving workshop, as well as fun activities and performances! Market will take place mostly outdoors (weather dependent) -- masks are required when indoors. Community care is important to us!
Check out the organizers: Guelph 4 Palestine, the Sudanese Resistance Front, the Palaver Collective, Seed Soil Spirit, members of the National Farmers Union (Canada) and farmers across Turtle Island working together to launch the Seeds of Solidarity Funding Drive. Let us join together to support their work to uplift farm workers in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Cuba, and Niger.
As conditions continue to deteriorate globally, it is our duty as workers of the land to stand in solidarity with those experiencing the brunt of colonial violence. As people who work with the land, we know the abundance the earth can provide. We are asking food growers, land workers, medicine makers and other food community members to join us in fundraising towards vital campaigns to support food sovereignty in the face of systemic violence and genocide:
Arduna - A farming family in Gaza, aiming to break the siege on Gaza by growing food in Beit Lahia and supporting other farming families. Funding will support them in purchasing solar panels to help pump water, which will be used to water their seedlings and crops. @arduna_team
Pan-African Learning Centre & Garden - A collective in Tanganyika in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are working to develop a 4-hectare garden and learning hub to provide free, accessible education rooted in African history, unity and self-determination. Funding will support the purchase of materials and tools for the second phase of the centre's development.
Collective of Afro-Cuban Farmers - A group of Black farmers in Cuba working to build capacity for food production in the face of crippling sanctions. Funding will help install irrigation systems and purchase solar-powered equipment. It will also create infrastructure to host aid brigades in the region.
Femmes Engagées pour la Sauvegarde de la Patrie - A prominent organization in Niger that has actively mobilized women across the country to participate in national defence efforts, support state sovereignty, and safeguard the nation. They are currently working to build food sovereignty. Funding will support the installation of irrigation on their farmlands and the purchase of materials to increase cultivation capacity.
We Must Plant - A grassroots initiative by the Gezira and Managil Farmers' Alliance and supported by organizations like the Sudan Solidarity Collective and Sudanese Resistance Front. For more info, check: @sudaneseresistancefront and @sudansolidaritycollective
Our goal is simple: to get land workers to register to raise 500 - 1000 by November 20th, 2026. By doing this, we can collectively raise a minimum of $25,000 (and hopefully much more), adding significant support to each initiative. Get creative, and involve your communities!
