Sug and Slug Beat: an ensemble assembled by Mike Sugarman to include the conductress of chaos Kiernan Laveaux will perform selections from Slug Beat realese in March of 2024 via Lizard Label plus some other related tracks.  They will dive hand in hand into the materials’ jazz-inspired structures and lush grooves. The core of the ensemble will be sugarman playing live drums and DJ H (Laveaux) taking the helm as the groups “nu metal DJ”, playing loops, synths, and other riffs.

More about Slug Beat: Appearing out of a chef’s kiss of delirium, Sug’s Slug Beat comes as the 2nd release on Chicago’s newly minted arbiters of the weird — LIZARD LABEL! Following their first release of Wav Fuzz’s Sensing, they return with another slab of Prairie State psychedelia & explorations into further unknowns. Placing it in tandem with Sensing, the music of Slug Beat was written to soundtrack an annual meeting of the minds & spirit deep in the wide open expanses of the middle west, manifesting as an artifact of exhilaration & freedom — evoking ripples of summer heat, the tickle of grass against skin, the maneuverability of a calming wind, & ultimately the arcane delight of walls of sound heard loud as hell with other freaks.  The beauty of Slug Beat is not in its completion or finality of vision, but in its bravery to take the first step and keep going ― tapping into the meaningfulness of connectivity, self expression, and shared activation through music. Lizard Label’s belief in these songs helped bring the release to life, and is now presenting it here for your listening pleasure. Doing away with expectation, making the unreal real, inverting drab realities into a sonorous togetherness ― Slug Beat invites us into a singular & psychedelic getaway, alone together in the vastness of all.

Graham Hatke is a dj and producer from Baltimore, Maryland.  He runs the perfectly manicured record store E2-E4 in which his impressive curation fills the bins and walls. As with many true music geniuses his low key and modest demeanor does not encapsulate all the ways in which he contributes to the music community – connecting djs from around the world and bringing them to Baltimore for truly intentional dance functions.  As a dj he creates a boundless journey that will keep you joyfully dancing to his most impressive collection while in awe of his technical expertise. Now Graham will share another window into his musical experimentation with a first-time live set – not to be missed.

Joyce Lim is a household name in the DC music community, doing the work of 10-20 people in one magical person. She runs a niche record label 1432 R, creates the artwork for the releases, co-created a much-needed queer dance club, and is a beloved dj whose bouncy dance moves entice us alongside her wide-ranging music taste.  A trained pianist, it is no surprise that Joyce has entered the experimental live world of music. A treasure of a person, having a smile and hug ready for all those that know her – she will grace us with yet another talent of hers to fall in love with.
