Sunday June 4 * 7pm * TICKETS

Join us for another music showcases with an evening of rock, dream pop and experimental music by queer artists for QUEERING SOUND ‘23 on June 4th at 7:00PM at Rhizome DC.  QUEERING SOUND is a multifaceted arts festival of LGBTQIA+ artists/allies held annually in Washington DC.

Featuring performances:

Ammonite, a D.C.-based power trio bringing a little jangle and twang to an edgy 90's sound. Ammonite is comprised of veterans of the DMV music scene: Selena Benally (More AM Than FM, The OSYX, Odd Girl Out). Along with lead singer, Erin Frisby, Selena was a co-founder of the organization, This Could Go Boom!, a grassroots and volunteer led organization focused on gender equity in the music industry. Erin Frisby (FuzzQueen, The OSYX) has spent years touring the country and has sung on stages as diverse as Carnegie Hall and 924 Gilman Street.  Alyson Ciná (All Her Muses, The Grey A) has played drums with Menage Á Garage and has toured extensively with Jersey working class punk band, Hudson Falcons.  Ammonite burst onto the D.C. scene with a packed Dyke Night performance at Dew Drop Inn and an online show with The National Museum of Women in the Arts "The Tea" series. Their three single release, DEMOlitions, was featured on the Bandcamp home page as well as Country Queer, Alt Q Radio breaking through to number one on their charts, and Out Loud Radio. Songs from the EP have been featured on several playlists.

Ari Voxx is DC’s Dreamy Pop Princess. Well-versed in many different music worlds, she focuses on writing music that is eclectic and authentically her, transcending genres. Ari’s sound is heavily inspired by the moods and vibes of 80s/90s new-wave and pop artists, with influences ranging from Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, and The Cure, to The Eurythmics, Soundgarden, and Imogen Heap. As a Black, Queer, Female artist and mental health awareness advocate, Ari’s music is reflective of her diverse environment and experiences - themes like alienation, heartache, self-identity, and her struggles with anxiety and depression often occur in her songwriting. The kaleidoscopic lens through which she views her creations is encapsulated by her dreamy, soft-glam aesthetic, and usually involves melancholic undertones.

Blood Family Reunion are a DC-based dream pop band that makes joyful music for lost souls and broken vessels. A shiny thing in the dirty sand. Somber swells and lyrical riffs from Joe King's guitars overlay Stephen Lilly's driving bass melodies and Donovan Lessard's foundation beats, glimmering crashes. Pam Carder sings about tragedies, family legends, and time travel.

Eyerolls, Mx. Zoe! Eyerolls is a Maryland-based experimental sound artist, “functioning” on the outer fringes of wtf-ness for eh let’s say like 20 years. Their sounds have been described as "super adventurous" (Tabs Out) and "annoying noise that demands you turn it off" (THE ORGAN). They have released works on <1, Bent Window, Trepanation Recordings, Moon Musiq, and collaborated with artists such as Earthflesh, Whitelace, vay, and Scum Alice. Hey, while we’re at it they’ve been featured on the Watt From Pedro Show and are at this very moment most likely falling down a flight of stairs.

Julie Outrage is a guitarist, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and producer with a style ranging from blues, rock, R&B, experimental and jazz.  She was born in West Africa, spent several years living in Brooklyn and is now based in Washington, DC.

QU23 runs 01 – 17 June staged at four Takoma DC and Takoma Park MD sites and features a visual art exhibit, spoken word evening, video/new media screening, and multiple music showcase. Additional details and ticketing info coming soon.
