Aperture Duo: Selections from Moon Units (2020) by Pauline Kim Harris
A collection of 13 virtuosic miniatures for Violin and Viola, each unit is a magnified glimpse of a mercurial eco-soundscape -- each named after a full moon in a calendar cycle. Commissioned by Aperture Duo in 2019 and completed in April 2020, right after our world changed due to COVID-19, they decided to premiere the piece digitally as a year-long project -- releasing the piece unit by unit on the day of the corresponding full moon. These are the first five in the series. The premiere of the next video will be on December 29.

This violin duo, played by Olivia Da Prato and Josh Modney, is drawn from Dan Blake's hour-long multi media work The Dust Moves (Infrequent Seams, 2016) written for the Mivos Quartet and live animations. In this movement, the violins - with their penchant for unison - are constantly approaching and repelling each other, a sonic "motion" represented visually by kaleidoscopic images ranging from granular noise to muted opaque colors.

Stephanie Sleeper is a Brooklyn-based choreographer, performer, and costume designer. Her work has been shown at various NYC venues including Roulette, Incubator Arts, Dixon Place, Joe's Pub and Triskelion Arts. Yuri Zupancic is an interdisciplinary artist and curator based in Paris. He creates videos, paintings, sculptures, music, and collaborates regularly with the Anagram Ensemble and other Infrequent Seams artists.
