This month, Baltimore's Malaika Aminata Clements will be there in person to screen her film Not About A Riot and answer questions.

About the film:
Using footage from the week of unrest popularly coined “The Baltimore Uprising”, filmmaker Malaika Aminata documents a city’s response to the death of Freddie Gray. Through music, movement, and art, spirits are stirred, shackles are unchained, and a community comes together. This is the story the media didn’t show; Not About A Riot.

Zimbabwe born, Atlanta raised, Baltimore taught, and universally influenced; Malaika Aminata Clements is a visionary whose ultimate purpose is to promote understanding through creative expression. In 2013 she graduated from Morgan State University with a degree in Print Journalism, and has since spearheaded projects that use multi-media storytelling to share narratives that are often overlooked. Malaika has worked in the capacity of curator, artist, and liaison for nonprofit, independent, and cooperate organizations such as Jubilee Arts, Red Bull Amaphiko, Luminous Intervention, Light City, and the Baltimore Museum of Art, and in 2016 received Baltimore City Paper's best of Award for counter mass media documentary, Not About a Riot.
