Please join us in a gathering of artists, makers, and curious crafters as we work on projects like sewing and embroidering, and share knowledge on techniques in fiber arts. Bring in your current sewing projects, past works to get feedback on, materials and scraps to share/exchange/recycle, and feel free to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with those working in similar mediums.

About the Facilitators :
ALANNA REEVES was born in Washington, D.C and is a recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design where she earned a BFA in Illustration and concentration in History of Art and Visual Culture. Undergraduate study and travel resulted in an intense focus on language, cultural perception, and origin which she explores through writing and reviving familial traditions of craft. Having returned to her hometown, Reeves now engages with the District’s artist community via education and art administration. She currently serves as founder, editor, and writer for HUE: Culture, Color, Theory zine which has been accepted into university special collections.

JAMILA ZAHRA FELTON is an artist and educator who creates as The Beat of Blossoms. A former public school teacher, Jamila works as a librarian and has over seventeen years of experience educating youth and adults. She graduated from Spelman College and holds an Ed.M. from Harvard University and an MLIS from The Catholic University of America. Jamila lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband--a scientist/writer/musician, their son, and their dog Theory. Follow her @beatofblossoms and thebeatofblossoms.com

REX (ALEXANDRA) DELAFKARAN is a San Francisco, California transplant living and engaging as an interdisciplinary artist and dancer, curator and administrator in Washington, DC, working out of Red Dirt Studios. A San Francisco Art Institute alum (BFA in Sculpture and Ceramics, minor in Performance/Installation) Rex has worked and exhibited in Southern Exposure Gallery, Diego Rivera Gallery, Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Panoply Performance Lab, Transformer and more. Currently a participating guest writer at local online art writing publication DIRT.
