DC’s avant-pop performance company banished? productions presents their final production as part of the 11th Capital Fringe Festival.  Five miniature performances form a single dirge for banished?’s last voyage which reflects on destruction and death, ritualizes what is left standing, and makes room for the alchemical, luminous doom of metamorphosis and rebirth.

Staged in a promenade style performance at RhizomeDC, this immersive piece is formed as an assemblage, a performative ecology of collaborators and refracted contemplations of endings and how we might survive them.

Kids: Beech Tree Puppets presents Butterfly Wonder

Meet Inchy the caterpillar, who has just popped out of his egg! He meets new friends, hides from the bird, and eats many leaves before spinning his cocoon and emerging as a beautiful butterfly. Many songs and short dialogues introduce the flowers, animals (a hungry caterpillar in three sizes, a mouse, robin, a bee and of course the butterfly), and the change from daytime to the moon and stars of night.  For this one-woman show,  Ingrid Hass uses a beautifully decorated apron as her stage, with characters magically appearing from hidden pockets.  Children will make simple paper butterfly puppets afterwards with the puppeteer, co-founder of Beech Tree Puppets.   Puppet show and workshop will last about 1 hour.   Recommended for ages 3-8.
