Concert: Powers/Rolin Duo / Allison Clendaniel + Lisa Perry / Mamet/O'Connor/Sandel

Thursday August 8 * 8pm * $10 * TICKETS

POWERS/ROLIN DUO are an improvisational folk drone group based in Columbus, OH. Jen Powers is a former member of Autophonia, whose Scioto Records cassette release "Nolite Te Bastardes Carborundorum" was featured by Marc Masters in his Best Experimental Music on Bandcamp article in April of 2019. Matthew J. Rolin has made a name for himself in the guitar soli community over the past three years; his third solo album is set for vinyl and digital release by Feeding Tube Records by the end of 2019. In this project, Jen plays a lightly effected hammered dulcimer and Matthew plays an acoustic 12-string guitar. Together, they create hypnotic tapestries of sound that are both meditative and emotionally dynamic. They have shared bills with Luke Stewart, Amps for Christ, Itasca, Elkhorn, Charalambides, David Nance Group, Mountain Movers, Anthony Pasquarosa, and many more, and have collaborated with Wolf Eyes, Aaron Dilloway, and others.

A versatile performer and improviser, Allison has composed and played music for voice, synthesizer, piano, computer, cello, and theremin in both solo and collaborative environments. She currently focuses her artistic attention at the intersectionality between technology and acoustic instruments. She has studied voice and movement with legendary performer and composer, Meredith Monk at the House Foundation, clowning with Globus Hystericus, and has toured extensively through North America as a teacher and performing artist. An avid advocate for the arts, she is the Artistic Director of Mind on Fire, a modular chamber orchestra, and co-conspirator of Sedge Wren. During the day, she works supporting theatre designers with Figure 53, a Baltimore-based theatre technology company.
LISA PERRY is a soprano, pianist, and contemporary chamber music specialist hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. She is a founding member of the Pique Collective (Baltimore) and REXDuo (Brooklyn), a contemporary voice duo with fellow soprano Danielle Buonaiuto. She is also a core member of Mind on Fire (Baltimore). Recent fellowships include Bang on a Can “Banglewood;” Opera from Scratch; SongFest as the first-ever New Music Fellow; and Thompson Street Opera. Recent guest artist performances include the Poetry Foundation (Chicago), Illinois State University, Montgomery College New Voices festival, New Music Gathering (2016 and 2017), Bowling Green State University, SALT New Music Festival, Parma Festival, and SUNY Fredonia. Recent solo performances of note include Gyorgi Ligeti’s “Mysteries of the Macabre” with the SUNY Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players in Stony Brook, NY, and “NO one To kNOW one” by Andy Akiho, performed with the Atlantic Reed Consort at the National Gallery of Art and at Carnegie Hall.
