Concert: Obody, Sarah Hughes and Insect Factory, Nik Francis and Jim Ryan Duo

Friday August 31st    8PM    $10      Obody Obody combines ambient textures, folk song structures, and general experimentalism based around the songs of Peter Vincent. Notoriously uncategorizable, the iteration of the group on this tour features a dynamic group of players from around the country that includes Sarah Hennies, Mike Shiflet, and TJ Borden, each of whom are forces in their own right within the creative music community. Not to be missed! https://obody1.bandcamp.com/ Insect Factory and Sarah Hughes First collaboration between Rhizome mainstays Jeff Barsky and Sarah Hughes. Given the range of genres each work within, the command over their instruments, and sense of exploration inherent in their playing, all assumptions about what this will involve can be dismissed. I'm sure it'll sound better than sitting at home and playing each of their solo recordings at the same time (though that may be cool), so come out and see what happens. https://insectfactory.bandcamp.com/ https://www.sarahmariehughes.com/ Nik Francis and Jim Ryan duo Nik & Jim have worked closely together for the past two years on developing a fluid and dynamic language for free improvisation. Nik Francis is a DC based drummer and composer of electro-acoustic music. For the last half century, Jim Ryan has performed spoken word and improvised music in Europe and throughout the United States, playing saxophone, flute, and trumpet. Jim recently returned to DC from San Francisco, where he was active in the experimental music scene for many years. During the 1980s he lived in DC and worked with the Art Performance Group. His music and poetry have been issued on Edgetone Records.
