Concert: Christopher Tignor, Tristan Welch / Ron Oshima, The Hunted Hare

CHRISTOPHER TIGNOR is a composer, violinist, and software engineer. His emotionally charged scores and unique focus on live, performance-based electro-acoustic practice has won acclaim within both the classical and experimental communities across 8 LPs on the Western Vinyl and New Albion record labels. He creates the live performance software he uses, shared freely. As a composer he has written and recorded work for ensembles including The Knights, A Far Cry string orchestra, and Brooklyn Rider string quartet, performing alongside them at premiere venues including Carnegie's Zankel Hall. As a string arranger he has worked with Helios, John Congleton, This Will Destroy You, Meshell Ndegeocello, and several other artists at the boundaries of popular music.

"Renegade post-minimalist” - the New Yorker

“Tignor creates a muttered hum of activity that burbles at the fringes of an internally focused halo of sustained, glowing chords, and the effect is powerful.” - NPR

TRISTAN WELCH & RON OSHIMA - Ron Oshima is a working-class musician that has been playing soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones and flute. He has been playing around the DC metro area for over 20 years with various groups of many varieties as well as working as an award-winning sound designer. Tristan Welch is an experimental guitar player that creates heavy ambient movements via heavy minimalism. Together, Tristan Welch and Ron Oshima have created three new pieces collectively titled “God Bless America”. These pieces create an ambient atmosphere with a mixture of free jazz. Each piece has a strong focus in their own respective keys – G, B and A. God Bless America was recorded live at The Brink outside of The Nations Capital on Election Day (US) 11/8/16. The concept behind God Bless America is actually pretty simple - we are not nationalist and we could all use a little help.

THE HUNTED HARE is the solo guitar project from Dennis Kane, a Washington, DC composer and multi-instrumentalist. The debut recording, “Nothing Is Always” is set to release late-June 2017 on Verses Records, DC’s enclave for experimental music. The music on “Nothing Is Always” is as minimal as it is lush, mostly performed live using loops and electric guitar.  The focus is on simple, memorable melodies inhabiting a stark landscape; an ode to a journey from the brink of collapse to renewal. In addition to the Hunted Hare, Dennis is half of the experimental, electro-acoustic duo, Domingues & Kane, with cellist and viola da gambist, Amy Domingues.
