Concert: Davis / Niekrasz / Damman, Anthony Pirog, CMW Players

Chicago's Kevin Davis (cello, electronics) and Chris Dammann (bass, electronics), and Portland's John Niekrasz (drums) create ecstatic improvised sound built upon deep listening and energetic exchange. Davis / Niekrasz / Dammann follow virtuosic flow, extended techniques, and peripheral awareness toward a real connection with each other and the listener.

Anthony Pirog is making his mark on the guitar playing universe, one sonically enthralling, diversely influenced project after another. Anthony has played with musicians across a wide spectrum of styles and genres. He has performed with renowned avant jazzers such as Henry Kaiser, Elliot Sharp, Michael Formanek, Ches Smith, Mary Halvorson, William Hooker, William Parker, Eyvind Kang, Skuli Sverrisson, Allison Miller, Jon Irabagon, Doug Weiselman, Susan Alcorn, Dave Ballou, Andrew Bishop, Balázs Pándi, Gino Robair, Tatsuya Nakatani, James Brandon Lewis, Jessika Kenney and played in myriad jazz, electronic and improvisational groups up and down the East Coast. Seemingly able to master any convention he chooses to adopt and more than capable of developing and adapting his own, Anthony Pirog challenges our preconceived notions about genre and guitar sound.

Creative Music Workshop Players is an evolving collective of improvisers convened in early 2015 and comprised of some of the leading members of D.C.’s experimental music scene. Individually and in various groupings CMW Players have played almost everywhere in the D.C. area, including Source Festival, the Kennedy Center, Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music, DC Jazz Festival, Goethe Institut, Capital Fringe Festival, the Freer Gallery, the Embassy of Indonesia, Dance Place, etc.
